Belarus foreign currency deposits of the population decreased by $464.1 million (11.1%) in May after declining by $458.9 million in April and $40.4 million in March. This was reported by the National Bank of Belarus. Thus, the Belarusians have withdrawn $963.4 million from their foreign currency deposits over the last three months.
According to the National Bank’s data on June 1, the volume of deposits in foreign currency amounted to $3.73 billion, $650.9 million (14.9%) less than at the year’s beginning.
Household deposits in national currency decreased by Br959.8 billion (9.5%) in May after rising by Br447.3 billion in April and a decline of Br1.185 trillion in March, AFN.
Ruble-denominated deposits in early June amounted to Br9.195 trillion, $616.3 billion (6.3%) less than January 1, 2011.
In addition, time deposits of natural persons in Belarusian rubles totaled Br6.62 trillion on June 1, 4.7% down in May after 1.6% decline in April.
During January-May 2011 time deposits of physical persons decreased by 5.2% (Br360 billion).
The total volume of ruble deposits (including transferable deposits) in the Belarusian rubles fell by 9.5% (Br960 billion) in May — up to Br9.19 trillion. A fall in deposits has amounted to 7.2% for five months.
