The committee members of the organization " Belaruski Rukh" (Belarusian Movement) adopted a resolution at the regular meeting on February 19, which urged the European Union to apply tough economic sanctions for the Belarusian authorities. According to the organization's members, the EU should "accept harsh economic sanctions against the regime, illegally holding power in Belarus" after the guilty verdict in respect of oppositionist Vasili Parfenkov.

Among the possible sanctions, members of opposition organizations propose to deny the public authorities and state-controlled enterprises in loans and economic aid, as well as to freeze the accounts of state enterprises with a parallel increase of lending to small and medium-sized Belarusian enterprises, bypassing the regime-controlled banks.

Belarusian opposition also called on the EU countries to increase direct assistance to the citizens of Belarus, affected by the consequences of the Chernobyl explosion, depriving the public authorities of participation in the distribution of this assistance.

According to «Belaruski Rukh» members, «one should recreate freedom, democracy, transparency in economic decision-making and the rule of law in Belarus to save the independence of Belarus, but not save the neo-Soviet political and economic regime of Alexander Lukashenko never to create an environment for the civilized investment.»

In addition, at a meeting of the organizing committee a working group has been established as an interim coordinating body of the organization. Software, analytical, informational, cultural, educational, international, organizational and regional commissions of the organization have also been created. Members of «Belaruski Rukh» decided not to apply for registration until the release of all the opposition activists, considered as political prisoners by the members of the organization, reports «Narodnaia Volia

As Telegraf previously reported, a new political party of the national-democratic direction «Belaruski Rukh» («Belarusian Movement») emerged from the split of the BPF. About a hundred ex-members of PBNF, considering that party «no longer fits its name and program values,» announced about their resignation on February 11.
