Belarus's foreign trade balance was negative and amounted to minus $3.75 billion in January-April 2011. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee. This indicator barely exceeded minus $2 billion during the same period last year.

Belarus’s trade deficit with CIS countries amounted to minus $3.24 billion in early May, with the Customs Union countries — minus $3.44 billion, with Russia — about minus $3.55 billion; only with Kazakhstan the balance was positive — $104 million.

Belarus’s deficit reached minus $506.4 million with non-CIS countries.

As Telegraf previously reported, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov informed on May 24 about how the country is going to overcome the financial crisis. According to him, the Belarusian Council of Ministers expects to increase earnings from exports after more than 50% ruble devaluation.

Export growth rate will exceed imports from July, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. «I think we will be able to go on the prevailing growth rate of exports over imports in the second half of the year,» said Alexander Guryanov.

According to international experts, namely balance of payments deficit was a major cause of the currency crisis in Belarus.
