Belarus's Foreign Currency Deposits of Legal Entities Decreased by 7.6% in Year's First Quarter

According to the National Bank of Belarus, the volume of corporate deposits in rubles fell by 1.7% in January-March and amounted to Br10.9 trillion ($3.57 billion) on April 1. With regard to the deposits of business entities in foreign currency, they decreased by 7.6% for the first three months of 2011 and totaled $2.77 billion on April 1.

As Telegraf previously reported, the number of customers of the Belarusian banks, willing to withdraw deposits in foreign currency, dramatically increased in late March. Experts believe that bank may face with the problem of deposits’ return because of the unstable situation with the currency on the domestic market.

Bank deposits in national currency decreased by almost Br1.2 trillion in March and amounted to less than Br23.9 trillion ($7.84 billion) in the beginning of April. The Belarusian ruble deposits fell by Br1.18 trillion ($ 386.89 million); in foreign currency — by $40.4 million.
