As Telegraf previously reported, there has been currency hype in the foreign exchange market in Belarus since March 2011. Purchase of foreign currency in cash for the population is becoming a serious problem, as it is simply not available in many exchangers. According to the authorities, the citizens themselves are to blame in this situation. As it’s said the head of the main department of the foreign exchange control of the National Bank of Belarus Anatoli Moroz, the population bought up $50 million in January 2011, in February — $12 million, and in March — $700 million despite the fact that Belarusians have bought $1.5 billion for the whole 2010. The authorities promised to solve the problem with the currency in May.
