Belavia Plane Caught Fire in Air over Ukraine

On Sunday, March 6, 20 minutes after taking off from Airport Borispol in Kiev the plane CRJ 100/200 of Belorussian National Airline Belavia flying from Kiev to Minsk caught fire in the air. According to one of the passengers, after the fire outbreak, the cabin filled with smoke.

«Stewardesses started running and reseated all the passengers forward. They gave us wet towels and told to breathe through them» — quoted the eyewitness, «Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belarus».

The pilots decided to get back to the Ukrainian capital, and successfully landed at Borispol. No one was hurt in the accident. The passengers flew to Minsk three hours after the emergency landing on a Boeing 753 of Ukrainian airline Aerosvit which landed at the Minsk-2 airport at 17:18. Some passengers went to Minsk by surface transport.

This is not the first fire outbreak in Belavia CRJ 100 aircraft model. As Telegraph previously reported, Belavia aircraft CRJ-100 crashed in Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan on February 14, 2008. There were 18 passengers and three crew members on board. No one was killed in the crash, several people were injured.
