Bishkek Requests Lukashenko to Take Care of Bakiyev Only Until the Trial

New Kyrgyz authorities expect that Minsk, where the exiled President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, is now, will ensure his security until the trial. It was reported on April 20 by the Chief of Staff for the Provisional Government of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov.

«This is an own business of Alexander Grigoryevich (Lukashenko), his right. We know Belarus as European and deeply friendly to us state … We ask the people of Belarus and the country’s leadership to ensure the safety and security of Bakiev until he appears before the court for numerous crimes against the Kyrgyz people», Baisalov said.

However, he did not specify, what exactly the crimes talked about and whether Bishkek to seek Bakiyev’s extradition, Korrespondent.net reports.

To remind, earlier, Alexander Lukashenko said that Bakiyev is in Minsk under the protection of Belarusian authorities.
April 6, in Kyrgyzstan started riots caused by the detention of almost all opposition leaders. The victims of the clashes erupted the next day in Bishkek were about 80 people, more than a thousand were injured. Soon, the opposition announced the dissolution of parliament and forming a new government headed by Rosa Otunbayeva.

After Bakiyev’s departure on April 16 to Kazakhstan and transfer of power to the opposition, his whereabouts were unknown. Several mass media reported that the former president fled to Belarus, but this information was not confirmed officially.

At the same time, earlier Bakiev refused political asylum in Belarus.
