Bishkek to Demand Bakiyev's Extradition through International Courts

Interim Kyrgyz authorities commented on the refusal of Belarusian General Prosecutor's Office to extradite the president Kurmanbek Bakiyev. According to the Deputy Chairman of the Provisional Government of Kyrgyzstan, Azimbek Beknazarov, now Bishkek is going to seek extradition of Kurmanbek Bakiyev from Belarus through international courts.

«They (the Belarusian side — Telegraf) plead that it is a political case. But we do not condemn Kurmanbek Bakiyev and just want to bring him to responsibility for the deaths of 90 young boys. I have told the General Prosecutor in the morning that he should explain it to mass media. If he has not done it yet, then, perhaps, tomorrow he’ll make a corresponding statement», the representative of provisional Kyrgyz authorities said in the evening on June 15, RIA Novosti informs.

Meanwhile, in Kyrgyz General Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment on Belarus’ refusal to extradite the president of Kyrgyzstan on June 15. According to the office, Kyrgyz General Prosecutor’s Office will make its statement on the issue after studying the answer of Belarusian authorities to the request for Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s extradition.

As Telegraf previously reported, General Prosecutor’s Office refused to extradite the president Kurmanbek Bakiyev to the interim authorities of Kyrgyzstan on June 15. However, the head of information and public relations department of Belarusian institution, Pyotr Kiselev, refused to comment on the reasons of the country’s authorities decision to journalists.
