Philip Missfelder, German Bundestag deputy from the ruling CDU / CSU faction, responsible for the foreign policy, urged the EU to impose an embargo on the import of Belarusian oil products. "We must exert more economic pressure," said the deputy, noting that "the EU has enough power to bring such a system, like Belarus, to a standstill."

«It is unacceptable in modern Europe when the dictator has rigged elections and then destroyed the rudiments of opposition with extreme brutality,» said Philip Missfelder in an interview with Spiegel-Online.

The MP urged the EU to speak with one voice on the situation in Belarus. «For me, Belarus is a litmus test of how strong the EU foreign policy actually is,» said the representative of the CDU / CSU.

He also stated the need for coordination with the U.S. and Russia. «The Kremlin does not want to have a second North Korea in its backyard,» said Philip Misfelder.
