CEC Allows to Vote Without Passport

Central Election Commission secretary, Nikolai Lozovik, reported that the CEC will allow voters to participate in elections on April 25 as with passport, so with other identification documents. According to the CEC representative, CEC is planning to take respective decision at a meeting on April 15, during which they will name a specific list of such documents.

«This decision was taken due to the fact that electoral commissions are often faced with situations where citizens, wishing to vote and who came to the constituency, can not show their passports because of objective reasons», Central Election Committee secretary said, BelTA informs.

According to Nikolai Lozovik, during the forthcoming meeting, the CEC members will also consider the application for registration of the initiative group, which is going to introduce a legislative initiative on the adoption of new draft law in Belarus, «On the victims of Nazi persecution».

«A group of citizens considers it necessary to formulate in a different way some laws, which regulate the social protection of war prisoners», secretary of the Central Election Commission explained. «They prepared a draft law. There is a certain procedure to send it to the consideration of the House of Representatives. One of the first steps is registration of initiative group».

Nikolai Lozovik also added that in case of initiative group registration, its members will begin to collect signatures in support of the decision on introducing a bill in Parliament, and will also realize explanatory work.

In addition, members of the Central Election Commission to discuss the activities’ order of foreign observers at the forthcoming elections, the representative of the CEC informed. «As the date of elections nears, the number of foreign diplomats, wishing to take part in monitoring them, gradually increases», Nikolai Lozovik said.

CEC secretary reported that now there are applications from 50 diplomats representing 24 countries under CEC examination. «We expect to issue them observer identity cards a few days before the elections begin», Nikolai Lozovik concluded.
