Presidential candidates will not receive additional airtime on radio and television. This was decided on December 9 at a meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda.

«The Central Election Commission and the National Broadcasting Company fulfilled the requirements of legislation to provide the candidates free air time on radio and television. The National Broadcasting Company refused the CEC proposal of granting additional time, recommending to apply to other media and to get there additional airtime at the expense of the election funds»,  the CEC secretary Nikolai Lozovik said, BelTA informs.
Nikolai Lozovik also expressed his position as a citizen, stressing that he had no desire to hear once again on radio and television «lie and slander, as well as irresponsible calls» for the illegal meetings and rallies. «The Central Election Commission received complaints about the speeches of some candidates in which it were said about their defamation and insult, undermining the credibility of officials,» the CEC representative said.
Moreover, the CEC noticed, not all the candidates had even used the time provided free of charge on television and radio. Some of them left the televised debates, used just 7 of the 30 minutes granted, refused to participate in radio debates. In this regard, it is not appropriate to allocate additional airtime to the candidates, Nikolai Lozovik noted.
