Lithuanian joint stock company «Žiemgalos automobiliai», previously engaged in assembling and sale of Belarusian trucks MAZ in Vilnius, decided to assemble Chinese trucks and electric buses. The reason for that is lack of demand for Belarusian machinery. It was stated by director general of «Žiemgalos automobiliai», Saulius Gedvilas.

«We («Žiemgalos automobiliai»- Telegraf) have only one way — to the EU. I have already talked with German and Scandinavian companies. MAZ has no demand there, so we must work with Chinese, whose products are 40% cheaper than of well-known European manufacturers», Saulius Gedvilas said, «Verslo žinios» informs.

One of the reasons of decreasing demand for MAZ, according to the director general, is the unwillingness of Belarusian manufacturers to reduce prices for their products, and because of that cheap machines from China begin to be more popular.

«Žiemgalos automobiliai» representatives plan to assemble Chinese trucks of two models, equipped with German engines and gearboxes, and electric buses. Saulius Gedvilas hopes that if it all is implemented, then they will sell up to 750 Chinese trucks, assembled in Lithuania, to the EU in a year.
