CIS observers of the presidential elections will begin to work in Belarus in the coming days. That was stated by Lidia Yermoshina the chairman of the Central Election Commission on September 20. According to the head of the CEC, CIS representatives have already contacted the Central Election Commission of Belarus and asked to send them the application form for the observers.

Lydia Yermoshina reported that CIS representatives had expressed their willingness to send five people for long-term observation of the presidential elections to Belarus in the coming days, BelTA informs.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), where the CEC has also sent formal invitations, have not yet started the official correspondence with Belarus, Lydia Yermoshina said.

As for the local election monitoring, the CEC chairman said that the Belarusian Helsinki Committee has already sent a representative to attend meetings of the CEC. Other political parties and public organizations have not yet taken an advantage of that possibility. Lydia Yermoshina suggested that they may send representatives as observers after the nomination of presidential candidates.

Candidates to Appoint a CEC Member with a Deliberative Vote, CEC

In addition, the CEC chairman noted that in accordance with amendments to the electoral legislation of Belarus the presidential candidates for the first time will have the opportunity to appoint a member of the CEC with a right of the deliberative vote. Lydia Yermoshina emphasized that this right can be used only by the candidates after the official registration. Thus the Institute for the appointment of the CEC members will start working only a month before the presidential election.

However, Lydia Yermoshina noted that potential candidates do not hurry to apply for registration of action groups. «We are working now on the formation of the action groups lists. Nothing makes prospective candidates be the first, considering their possibility to collect signatures no earlier than September 30», added the CEC chairman.

As Telegraf informed, Lydia Yermoshina expects an influx of applications for registration of action groups closer to September 24.
