Credit Portfolio of Banks in Belarus Increased by 9.2% since Year's Beginning

According to the National Bank of Belarus, the credit portfolio of Belarusian banks amounted to Br96.9 trillion on April 1, 2011. Thus it has increased by 9.2% since the beginning of the year. Long-term loans have been granted of over Br72.1 trillion for this period (8.3% growth since the beginning of the year), short-term loans — Br24.8 trillion (11.8% growth). Long-term loans have amounted to 74.4% in the amount of credit debt of banks, i.e. 1.4% more than during the same period last year.

According to the National Bank, the real sector of the economy of Belarus enjoyed more loans in Belarusian rubles in January-March 2011. Thus, the share of loans in local currency in its loan portfolio was 77% on April 1. During the reporting period, the volume of loans in Belarusian rubles increased by 7.4% to Br74.7 trillion. The volume of loans in foreign currency also rose by 15.5% to Br22.2 trillion, BelTA informs.

The largest volume of bank loans has been issued to private sector enterprises. In accordance with the main directions of monetary-credit policy, the banks’ claims on the economy are expected to grow by 24-25% and reach 58% of GDP.
