Base documents of the Customs union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan don't contradict base documents of the World Trade Organization and the European Union. Igor Shuvalov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, stated on June, 17th, making comments on the EuroParliament resolution that the Customs Union can become obstacle for joining of Russia to the WTO.

According to Igor Shuvalov, the main base documents on formation of the Customs Union repeat the base documents of the European Union, RIA Novosti informs. The First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia also noted, that the statute documents of the Customs Union correspond to the principles of the European Union and the WTO.

As Telegraf informed, Catherine Ashton, the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, stated speaking to MEPs on June, 16th in Strasbourg, that the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan is a matter of some concern in the European Union. At the same time, Catherine Ashton did not disclose the reasons for this «concern».

However, according to the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, the EU supports Russia’s desire to join the WTO as soon. «Currently, political intentions in respect of free trade must change to action», Catherine Ashton said.
