Cyclone Nicholas Cut off Power from 1.3 Thousand Settlements in Belarus

Strong winds, caused by Cyclone Nicholas, cut off power from more than 1.3 thousand settlements of Belarus on February 8. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a hurricane blew the roof off eight homes, no injuries were reported. 

Hrodna voblast suffered most of the hurricane — 431 localities were left here without electricity. 275 settlements were de-energized in Minsk voblast, 267- in Vitsebsk voblast, 186 — in Mahiliou voblast, 88 — in Homel voblast, 71 — Brest, BelTA informs.

According to MES, power was not still restored in 257 settlements in the morning of February 9.

As Telegraf previously reported, strong winds, reaching a speed of 27 m / s, was caused by an active cyclone, called Nicholas by the German meteorologists. According to the weather forecasts, strong gusty winds will be slowing down in the larger territory of Belarus on Wednesday, February 9, and the weather in the country will be determined by the unstable and cold air mass from the Scandinavian Peninsula in the coming days. Scattered snow and sleet are expected in places. There will be gusty winds, blizzard and sleet on the roads at night in the north-east. The air temperature will go down to -3 ..- 9 ° C during the day, clearing up to -12 ° C at night, with 0 ..- 2 ° C daytime on the south-west.
