Deficit Reached $8.3 Billion, Belstat

According to the National Statistics Committee of Belarus, merchandise trade deficit in goods reached $8.3 billion for 11 months of 2010. The figure was $6.3 billion in January-November last year.

The volume of merchandise trade in January-November 2010 increased by 18.4% and amounted to $52.7 billion compared with the same period last year. Imports of goods grew by 20.2% to $30.5 billion, export — by 16.1% to $22.1 billion.

The total volume of export deliveries to CIS countries increased by 45.9% and amounted to $12.2 billion during the reporting period compared with January-November 2009. Exports to Russia increased by 47.7% to $8.9 billion. At the same time, exports to countries outside the CIS fell by 7.2% to $9.9 billion.

However, the total volume of import supplies from the CIS countries totaled $18 billion, having increased by 10.3% of over 11 months in 2010. Thus, the volume of imports from Russia increased by 6% to $ 15.8 billion, from non-CIS countries — by 37.9% to $12.5 billion, AFN.

The trade deficit of Belarus with the CIS countries amounted to $5.7 billion (against $7.9 billion over the same period in January-November 2009), in trade with Russia — $6.9 billion (against $8.9 billion). The negative balance has developed in trade with non-CIS countries — $2.6 billion. Last year, the balance was positive and amounted to $1.6 billion.

However, as Telegraf previously reported, according to the National Statistics Committee, the deficit amounted to little more than $6.9 billion, as of October 2010. Turnover of Belarus’ merchandise trade amounted to $46.6 billion at the time.
