Bank deposits of Belarusians in national and foreign currency were more than Br22.5 trillion in early December. They increased by more than 24% or Br4.4 trillion ($1.46 billion) during the first 11 months of 2010.

Deposits in national currency increased by 23.2% for the last period and in foreign currency — by 17.8%, thus having amounted to about Br9.9 trillion (about $4.2 billion), the National Bank reported.

«National Bank pays attention to maintaining a sufficiently high positive level of interest rates on ruble deposits in real terms, making efforts to protect them from inflation. What is more, citizens’ incomes from placing funds in bank deposits are not taxed,» the management of the National Bank noted.
