Distressed Debts on Loans Are Growing in Belarus

In Belarus, the population's distressed debt on loans in national currency reached 29.5 billion rubles on August 1 2010. This indicator has increased by 23.9% since the beginning of the year, including by 0.3% in July. Overdue debts of Belarusians on foreign currency loans increased by 15.8% from the beginning of the year (by 1.1% in July) and amounted to $28.6 million.

However, the amount of population’s lending in Belarusian rubles increased by 27.2% in January-July 2010, including by 4.1% in July. On August 1, this figure was equal to 16.5 trillion rubles, AFN informs.

The rest of population’s foreign currency debt to banks decreased to $809.3 million, what is 23.3% less than at the beginning of the year. The decrease is explained by legislative ban of physical persons’ lending in foreign currency, which has being used from July 2009.

As it was previously reported, in 2009, arrears on loans in national currency increased by 38.6% up to 12.9 trillion rubles. Distressed debt grew in 1.7 times to 23.8 billion rubles. Population’s debt on loans in foreign currency decreased by 28.7% to $1.05 billion, distressed debt grew in 5.5 times to $24.7 million.

Overdue debt of Belarusian enterprises reached 1.1 trillion rubles

Overdue arrears of Belarusian enterprise on credits and loans totaled 1.095 trillion rubles on July 1, 2010. The debt increased by 21.3% since the beginning of the year, including by 2.4% in June. The main amount of overdue debt falls on agricultural and industrial enterprises.

In particular, agricultural enterprises’ overdue arrears on loans and credits increased by 43.6% since the beginning of the year and reached 477.2 billion rubles. Overdue loans of industrial enterprises totaled 477 billion rubles, what is 12.5% more than in the beginning of the year.

Overdue debt of logistics enterprises amounted to 81.2 billion rubles, 13.9 billion of trade and public catering, 4.6 billion of housing, 4.4 billion of transport, 2.6 billion of construction.
 
Total volume of loans and credits issued to Belarusian economy grew by 8% from the beginning of the year, including by 1.4% for June. On July 1, 2010 the figure was equal to 62.9 trillion rubles.
