Monday, May 16, the dollar rate has reached Br4.5 thousand in the currency exchange offices of some Belarusian banks. So, Belagroprombank has set the purchasing dollar rate at Br4.49, the rate of sales — Br4.5 thousand. Belarusbank and Belgazprombank purchasing rate is 4.48, selling rate — Br4.5 thousand per dollar.

The new exchange rates have been set by 12 banks — Absolyutbank, Alfa-Bank, VTB Bank, Bank of Moscow-Minsk, Belagroprombank, Belarusbank, Belgazprombank, Belinvestbank, BPS-Bank, Paritetbank and SOMBelBank, reported portal Infobank.by.

All these banks have set the selling dollar rate at Br4.5 thousand, a new purchase rate ranges from Br4.4 to Br4.49 per dollar.

The new euro purchasing rate in banks is Br6.2 — Br6.42 thousand, sales — up to Br6.47 thousand per euro. The maximum purchase rate of the ruble has been set by Bank of Moscow-Minsk — Br160 per RUB, the selling rate — Br161.3 in BPS-Bank.

According to a source in the National Bank of Belarus, the commercial banks of the country have been given another tacit recommendation on the foreign exchange rates. The banks had been earlier recommended not to exceed the Br4 thousand dollar level; now they have been allowed keeping Br4.5 thousand rate.

As Telegraf previously reported, May 11, after the National Bank lifted recommendation restrictions for banks to establish exchange rates in foreign currency buy-and-sell transactions with the public, the Belarusian commercial banks devalued the ruble by about 30%.

Sources in the banking environment reported that the National Bank hadn’t lifted restrictions in full, but had set a limit of Br4 per dollar. In the case of these restrictions removal, commercial banks were willing to raise the dollar up to Br5 thousand. Nevertheless, the National Bank denies information on the exchange rate recommendations.
