EEC Crisis Fund Began Consideration of Belarus's Request for a Loan

Eurasian Economic Community Crisis Fund began its consideration of requests from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to finance their projects of $4.7 billion worth. This was stated by Deputy Secretary General of the organization Murat Musataev at the second mining forum "Minex Central Asia — 2011" on April 6.

«June 2010, the Anti-Crisis Fund allocated a $70 stabilization loan to Tajikistan; the fund is currently considering applications for project funding from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Armenia in the amount of $4.7 billion,» he said, reports «News-Kazakhstan» agency.

According EEC Deputy Secretary General, one of the areas of cooperation in the organization is the joint realization of investment and innovation programs and projects. «Several of these projects have already been funded by the Eurasian Development Bank, as well as EurAsEC crisis fund of the Center for High Technology,» he said.

Murat Musataev also reported that the total funding amounted to $2.7 billion; $13.5 billion projects were under consideration as well.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan may Join CU and CES, Musataev

«Two of the EurAsEC countries — Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan — may enter the customs union, like other community states, with further inclusion in the EEA, depending on the readiness of their economies and accession to the TC and SES package of documents, signed by the Heads of State,» said EEC Deputy Secretary General.

Murat Musataev also said that the removal of customs barriers in the mutual trade will further raise GDP up to $400 billion or by 15-20% in 2015. He reported that the growth of the total foreign trade turnover of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia amounted to 35.5% in December 2010 compared with June 2010 or 13.8% compared with the same period last year, reports RIA «Novosti» news agency.

Growth of total exports in December 2010 amounted to 20.3% compared with the previous year; the increase of the total volume of import is 32.4%.

As Telegraf previously reported, the official Kyiv has started consultations about a possible entry into the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. This was stated by Commissioner of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on cooperation with Russia, the CIS and EurAsEC Valeri Muntiyan. According to him, the treaty on the free trade area (FTA) with the CIS could be signed as early as in May, while the Ukraine intends to join the Protocol on the establishment of the CU in July.
