Engineering and Food Industries Work at a Loss, Belstat

In first six months of the year, National Statistic Committee of Belarus registered a decline of production and loss-making enterprises in engineering and food industries. According to Belstat data, in six months, 113 enterprises worked at a loss in mechanical engineering, 49 companies - in food industry.

For example, there produced by 13.4% less trucks (5.927), by 9.6% less buses (745), by 19.3% less bearings (2.193 million), by 6,9% less TVs ( 228.1 thousand), by 23.7% less bikes (58.8 thousand), by 17.5% less clocks (172.2 thousand), BelaPAN informs.

There decreased the level of production of refrigerators and freezers — by 3.9% (526.2 thousand units), internal combustion engines — by 5.9% (39.2 thousand), tractors — by 2.2% (23 thousand).

In general, over the first half of this year, production volume at Belarusian machine building and metal-working enterprises increased by 6.4% against the same period of last year and amounted to 13.8 trillion rubles.

There increased the production of tower cranes — in 2.6 times (70), freight cars — in 1.6 times (410), light bulbs — to 16.2% (83.1 million), washing machines — to 33.9 % (136.3 thousand), electric household stoves — by 32.4% (21.7 thousand).

The volume of unsold machine tools is almost three times more then average volume of their production, forge-and-press  machines — in 1.4 times, trucks — in 2.9 times, buses — in 1.3 times, roller bearings — 2, 5 times, household clocks — by 38.3 per cent.

As a result of work in January-May, there were 113 loss-making enterprises in the industry (19.8%). Total net loss reached 76.3 billion rubles. Over the same period of 2009, there were 136 loss-making enterprises (23.7%) with amount of losses at 92.6 billion rubles.

For five months of 2010, the profitability of sold products, works and services amounted to 12.2% against 10.4% against January-May 2009, sales profitability — 9.4% (8%).

In January-June 2010, in Belarus, there accumulated significant stocks of certain products. According to Belstat data, on July 1, the supplies of wines are in 1.6 times higher than the average volume of production, canned fruits and vegetables — in 2.7 times, cognac — in 3.7 times.

As a result of work in January-May 2010, 49 enterprises of food industry (13.1% of total) were unprofitable. Total loss amounted to about 48.2 billion rubles. On July 1, 2009, there were 98 loss-making enterprises (26.3%), the amount of losses amounted to 270.6 billion rubles.
