While compiling a sanctions list of the Belarusian officials, banned to enter the EU territory, the European Union incidentally included a dead person in this list. Mikhail Pischulenok, former chairman of Vitebsk voblast election commission, died long ago in 2009, though placed by the EU on the 3rd position in the list. The obituary mentioned him as head of the department of archives and records management.

The error occurred due to the fact that the first part of the list had been compiled after the elections in 2006 and hasn’t been changed since then. Mikhail Pischulenok was included in the list as the person, involved, according to the EU, in the rigging of the presidential elections, reports the Belarusian service of Radio «Liberty.»

According to Telegraf, the EU’s new package of sanctions against the Belarusian officials, including President Alexander Lukashenko, entered into force on February 2. The EU decided to freeze all the assets and economic resources of 157 representatives of the Belarusian authorities. Visa sanctions were applied to 158 officials.
