Monday, May 23, the head of EU foreign ministers extended the black list of Belarusian officials, targeted for freezing accounts and a ban on the EU entry. As reported by diplomatic sources, 13 new names were decided to add to the list of banned Belarusian officials.

People, «participated in reprisals against the Belarusian opposition,» as well as judges and prosecutors, involved in litigation against the opposition, are among the new defendants, reports Korrespondent.net.

According to the European community, new sanctions are due to the fact that the situation of human rights and democratic principles has deteriorated in Belarus. The EU is also concerned about harassment of opposition members.

The EU strongly condemned the court decision in the case of former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, sentenced on May 14 to five years in jail.

Dozens of people have already been convicted in the case of riots. The district courts of Minsk keep on considering cases of ex-presidential candidates Nikolai Statkevich and Dmitri Uss.
