Member of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of Belarus on international affairs and CIS relations Valentina Leonenko stated that the EU's adoption of sanctions against the Belarusian regime demonstrated the intention of the EU political elite to make political capital. It was stated by the MP on air of the First National Channel on February 1.

According to Valentina Leonenko, the political elite of the West absolutely does not analyze its actions and steps.» She sees this measure as «triggering a backflash.» «It is regretful that the ambition and desire to make a political capital in such a way outweigh common sense,» BelTA  quoted a representative parliament.

In turn, the head of the House of Representatives of the Standing Committee on Health, Physical Education, Youth and Family Oleg Velichko suggested organizing the negotiating table on the EU issue. «There must be respect for our state, to the sovereign republic. Only then we are ready to cooperate and build relationships with them,» he said.

According to Telegraf, Valentina Leonenko had previously stated that journalists «should keep silence for a while» in order to avoid increasing tension and split between Russia and Belarus.
