Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov commented on the officially unconfirmed information that the EU will renew Belarusian government sanctions. According to Foreign Minister, it is unlikely for the EU to freeze relations with Belarus today.

As the Belarusian Minister explained, such situation is of no advantage for Brussels, since the parties have a mutual interest in a more serious and deeper cooperation, BelTA informs.

«There are differences, which, naturally, do not always let follow this way quickly, but it is clear enough that there is mutual interest in making deeper relations ,» Sergei Martynov remarked and expressed hope that the EU keep this line.

Belarusian Foreign Minister refused to » make wild guesses » about a possible EU decision on sanctions against President Alexander Lukashenko and 25 high-ranking Belarusian officials, which is expected to be taken by Brussels in October.

«The European Union includes 27 members, they have 27 opinions on the topic of relations with Belarus, and it’s too early to guess which of them will win,» the minister said.

According to minister of foreign affairs, the attitude of Belarus to the subject of any sanction measures, remains the same: «They are never effective, just the opposite, they aren’t reasonable and fair.»

As Telegraf reported, preliminary talks by EU diplomats in September indicate the union will renew the travel ban for a further 12 months but at the same time suspend the measures for six months or 12 months.
