European Banks to Grant 40 Million Euro to Belarus for Water Supply Projects

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) to issue loans in amount of 20 million euro in equivalent each for Belarus to implement projects in water supply and drainage system. It was announced on April 29 by Deputy Minister of Housing and Public Utilities, Sergei Sushko, at the Water 2010 Congress.

«Negotiations on allocation of loans were conducted in the past year. Agreement with the EBRD and NIB will be tentatively signed in November of this year», BelTA quotes the words of deputy minister.

According to Sergei Sushko, they also continue to work with the World Bank, which has already provided 60-million-dollars loan for Belarus to build 23 water supply and drainage system facilities. «The facilities are planned to be set in operation by the year of 2014, the actual disbursements of the World Bank loan has been already begun»,
Sergei Sushko said. «This year, it is planned to disburse about 20 million, and the next year — about 30 million dollars».

Deputy minister of housing and public utilities also reported that to construct water supply and drainage system facilities, Belarus assumes to take a loan of the government of India amounting to $ 50 million.
