Chairman of the National Bank of Belarus Petr Prokopovich said in the report to President Alexander Lukashenko on March 17 that there wouldn't be a one-time devaluation while he's holding the post. The NBB head confirmed that an increasing demand for the currency is observed in Belarus now.

«While I am the chairman of the National Bank, there will be no single-stage devaluation. We have enough experience, accumulated over 15 years, and this experience suggests that this is a bad decision for the Belarusians. As it’s a bad decision, we’re not going to implement it,» ensured Petr Prokopovich.

The head of the National Bank pointed out that the words «one-time devaluation» mean «not a 20-30% devaluation, but even a 5% devaluation,» reported CTV.

«There won’t be even 5% devaluation. So make your conclusions. We are all in the same boat, I would like our country’s leadership, as well as our population and all sectors of the economy, would work at one main principal — providing socio-economic development and the improvement of living standards,» said chairman of the main bank in the country.

Petr Prokopovich also reported to Alexander Lukashenko that the country was doing everything needed to accomplish the basic indicators of socio-economic development for the current year. According to him, stability in the financial sector, payment of the banking system, interest rate and exchange rate policies are ensured in Belarus.
