Head of Information — Press Secretary Andrei Savinykh commented on the statements of some political figures in support of sanctions and other restrictive measures against Belarus. "We affirm the need for a sober assessment of the situation and a constructive dialogue at all levels," he said.

According to the official representative of the Belarusian foreign ministry, «only this approach meets the interests of a united Europe and the strengthening of European values.»

As for the statements of the Western politicians, Andrei Savinykh explained them by the fact that «part of our European partners have misconceptions about the real political and social situation in Belarus.»

«This encourages them to make decisions that will harm the normal interaction and the values, commitment to which they declare. This is a counterproductive stance that has already proved its futility in the past decade,» the press secretary of Belarusian Foreign Ministry stressed.

As Telegraf previously reported, the EU can renew the travel ban for the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and other Belarusian government officials, responsible for the arrests of opposition demonstrators after the elections. This was stated by Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.

In addition, the U.S. State Department spokesman Crowley said that the decision of the Belarusian authorities not to renew the mandate of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) indicated regression in the process of forming a democratic government in Belarus.
