Federation of Trade Unions called on the government to immediately address the stabilization of economic situation in the country. "Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTU) calls on government to take immediate action for stabilization given the evolving situation in the country's economy, widespread increase in commodity prices, which in turn causes public's excessive demand, as well as the situation on the currency market caused by the multiplicity of rates," reads the federation's statement.

In addition, FTU made suggestions about the need to hold an extraordinary meeting of the National Council for Labor and Social Affairs. It is suggested, apart from routine matters, considering the economic situation, priorities and future plans of the Belarusian government to stabilize the economy and preserving jobs and incomes, as well as to stabilize consumer market.

As Telegraf previously reported, the Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Miasnikovich said that next Monday and Tuesday (May 23-24), the Government and National Bank of Belarus would take decisions to stabilize the currency market. According to him, the measures, aimed at reducing money supply, will be taken first of all.
