Friendship Between the Peoples of Belarus and Cuba Strengthens, Lukashenko

On August 12, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, congratulated ex-President of Cuba, Fidel Castro, on his birthday. In an official letter Belarusian head of state noted that "time-tested friendship between the two peoples continues to strengthen". It was reported in the press service of Belarusian leader.

«Thanks to your friendly policy, Belarusian-Cuban relations continue to deepen», reads the congratulation message. Moreover, the president of Belarus expressed his confidence in that mutually advantageous Belarusian-Cuban cooperation would promote further growth of welfare of both countries’ population.

Belarusian-Cuban relations are developing constantly. Thus, in the year of 2000 during the first visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Cuba, the countries signed an agreement on friendship and cooperation. The treaty provided development and strengthening of ties in political, economic, military, social and humanitarian spheres.

In April 2006, Belarusian Prime Minister, Sergei Sidorsky, visited Cuba. The delegation, headed by the Prime Minister, included high-ranking officials of Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Transport, State Aviation Committee, Belgospischeprom, Belneftekhim, Bellegprom concerns.

In near future Cuba may participate in creation of a major biotechnology center in Belarus, planned to be established on the basis of the National Academy of Sciences.
