Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus, a candidate for the presidency in 2001 and 2006, Sergei Gaydukevich filed an application to the Central Election Commission to withdraw his candidacy from the presidential election, LDP informed Telegraf.

According to Telegraf, Sergei Gaydukevich declared that he was going to conduct a fully fledged presidential campaign. «Should not I go to the polls and the current president will be the only candidate in the ballot. It’s perfectly clear. Applicants, knowing of their weak chances (1%), won’t legitimize this regime. And who decides everything? The answer is Gaydukevich. Imagine for a moment that I do not exist, and what are you going to do with all this? That’s the point. I will send the registration lists of the action group — ten thousand people — and will look around. Then I’ll be thinking what to do next,» the leader of the LDPB declared.

CEC Secretary Nikolai Lozovik in response to his colleagues offer not to register Sergei Gaydukevich action group in connection with gross violations noted: «Let’s listen to Gaydukevich himself, who says: «How can be there elections without Gaydukevich?», Nikolai Lozovik said.

Sergei Gaydukevich collected the largest action group, which included 10.443 people, thus being ahead the incumbent head of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, in whose support 8.403 people were collecting signatures.
