Gay Parade May Be Held In Minsk

Representatives of sexual minorities of Belarus and Russia want to hold a gay parade in Minsk on May 15. As one of the representatives of the event organizing committee said, the organizers will soon file their application to Minsk City Executive Committee, and gay parade is planned to held in accordance with Belarusian legislation.

«By this street action we want to pay attention to the need to respect the rights of gays and lesbians, call for tolerance towards people with different sexual orientation», RIA Novosti quotes the words of its source.

Event organizers hope that Minsk authorities will allow the gay parade, said the organizing committee’s representative. «Allowing our event, Minsk City Executive Committee will show less conservatism and intolerance than Moscow authorities who have never allowed holding gay parade,» the source stated.

But the representative of the event organizing committee did not specify how many people from Belarus and Russia will approximately take part in gay parade.
