Russian holding Gazprom has supplied Belarus with more than 5.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas since early 2011. This was reported in the Russian company after the working meeting of Gazprom chairman, Aleksei Miller and the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko on March 24.

As explained in the company, the sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including issues of supply and transit of gas, during the meeting.

Under existing arrangements, Gazprom is planned to provide Belarus with 22.5 billion cubic meters of gas in 2011. There has been an increase in the volume of Gazprom gas supplies to Belarus in recent years. For example, Belarus purchased 21.57 billion cubic meters of gas from the Russian holding in 2010, while only 17.6 billion cubic meters — in 2009.

Meanwhile, as Telegraf previously reported, First Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko said on February 16 said that Belarus was interested in purchasing gas from alternative suppliers. Since there’s a written rule on free access to transmission facilities in the gas agreement with Gazprom of December 9, 2010, the Belarusian authorities, according to Vladimir Semashko, count on the fact that this will enable Belarus to diversify gas supplies.
