Belarusian General Prosecutor's Office promises to complete examining the request of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kyrgyzstan to extradite the President Kurmanbek Bakiyev till the end of June. This statement was made by the head of the Information and Public Relations Department of Belarusian General Prosecutor's Office, Pyotr Kiselev. "In accordance with Belarusian legislation, there determined a month period to consider such a request", he said.
However, the spokesman of the General Prosecutor’s Office said that the deadline for consideration of the request to extradite the president Kurmanbek Bakiyev to the Kyrgyz party may be prolonged if «the General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus deems it necessary to demand additional material on the case from their Kyrgyz colleagues», RIA Novosti informs.
«Belarus received an 18-page request for the extradition of Bakiyev. Now, these materials are being considered», Pyotr Kiselev said.
As Telegraf previously reported, Belarusian General Prosecutor’s Office had received from the provisional authorities of Kyrgyzstan an original request on extradition of president Kurmanbek Bakiyev and criminal case’s materials against him.
In General Prosecutor’s Office added that the package of documents on extradition of Kurmanbek Bakiyev arrived in Belarus by mail, as the Kyrgyz side had previously informed, and a copy of the request had been received by fax on May 1.
Earlier, Kyrgyzstan’s president stated in an interview that he had no plans to return home from Belarus, where he and his family are received by the head of state, Alexander Lukashenko. According to Kyrgyz leader, now «there are no conditions, no possibility» for his return to Kyrgyzstan.
Kurmanbek Bakiyev was forced to leave Kyrgyzstan because of mass riots broke out in the country in April, which began after the arrest of opposition leaders. He has earlier declared in Minsk that he had not resigned his office.
