The tragic events in Minsk became a touchstone for individual states and ambassadors in relation to Belarus. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Belarus Ali Nagiyev on April 19. "Here it is a litmus test — the position of individual states and ambassadors. But Lord be with them. He will handle them all," said the president.

«The foreign ambassadors in Belarus have clearly divided, I think, into two camps in this case: the ambassadors, who love our country, our people, who want good for our people and welcome the independent Belarusian state — I am sure that the ambassadors and the head of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission  belongs to this group. There are other ambassadors, there’s no desire to talk about them. Our media in light of the recent tragic events have showed their position very clearly,» BelTA quoted the head of state.

At the same time Alexander Lukashenko said he did not understand how «civilized, democratic state, as they claim, expressed no sympathy for the Belarusian people in a difficult moment.» «That’s the Belarusian people, who bravely fought against fascism, was especially injured, the president said. — What would have happened if not for our people who broke the back of this monster of fascism. And there are still generation who remember it well.»

The President has also noted that he usually meets not with all the ambassadors, completing their diplomatic mission in Belarus, but only with those who «made a significant contribution to the development of bilateral relations.» Alexander Lukashenko has also expressed his gratitude to Ali Nagiyev, who, according to the president, has done a lot for the development of Belarusian-Azerbaijani cooperation.
