Gomel Region Is Most Oppositional In Belarus

Among the party nominees for deputies of local Councils the majority of opposition is from Gomel region. 101 people in this region put forward their candidatures. This is almost a third of all oppositional candidates in the whole country, total number is 295. Least of all nominees are from Mogilev region, where only 11 opposition members run for local Councils deputy. For comparison, in the capital — 42.

In the whole Belarus, the biggest number of candidates among the opposition parties nominated Party of the Lefties «Fear World» — 127 people, followed UCP — 94. Then comes the BPF — 35 people, and head of the party Yanukevich is the only leader of the opposition party, who is running for deputy in these elections. Fourth place is taken by Lyaukovich’s party  Belarusian Social Democratic Party (32), the fifth — the Greens (five), and closes the list Shushkevich’s party BSDG (two) — both in Hrodno region, reports the Belarusian journalist’s blog.

Among loyal to the government of the country parties first place is occupied by the Communist Party of Belarus, which nominated 207 candidates from all 297 of «loyal» party members in general. Brest and Vitebsk are regions where the PBC is the only loyal party, whose representatives participate in the elections (44 and 29 people). Liberal Democratic Party is on the second place — 61 people, most are nominated in Minsk.
