Grib Refuses to Run for Presidency

General Secretary of Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Gramada), Mechislav Grib, previously declared his intention to participate in presidential elections, has refused to fight for presidency. Another Party member, Valery Frolov, is still ready to contest in elections as a candidate. It was reported by the deputy chairman of BSDP (Gramada), Anatoly Sidorevich.

He also noted that the Party’s Central Committee had considered the possible variants of participation in presidential campaign. «This is decision of principle that the Party will take part, but with regard to supporting a particular candidate, then, the issue can be resolved only by the congress», Belarus partisan quotes the deputy chairman of the Party.

On June 27, the Central Committee of Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Gramada) decided that the next congress would take place on October 10 in Minsk.

As Telegraf previously reported by, in late May an intention to take part in presidential elections was announced by two members of the Central Committee of Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Gramada) at the time — a former chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus, Mechislav Grib, and former member of the House of Representatives, Valery Frolov. However, the last one declared that he would position himself as «pro-Russian» candidate.
