Gross Foreign Debt of Belarus Reached Nearly Half of GDP

Belarusian gross foreign debt reached 48.8% of gross domestic product on October 1, 2010 and amounted to $25.593 billion. For comparison, it amounted to 45.1% of GDP ($22.06 billion) on 1 January 2010, and 24.9% of GDP ($15.154 billion) on January 1, 2009.

The country’s gross external debt per capita amounted to $2.703
thousand. The figure was $2.327 thousand in early 2010 and $1.596
thousand in early 2009, AFN.

According to the National Bank
of Belarus, $3.871 billion, which is 9.9% of GDP or 18.6% of export, was
transfered to external debt services for nine months, of which $3.445
billion was the main debt payment and $426 million — interest payments.
