Lithuanian President, Dalia Grybauskaite, said that Belarusian side had made "a serious progress" in the case of General Vladimir Uskhopchik, who was located on the territory of Belarus. According to the president of Lithuania, this is a good sign that relations between the two countries are developing in right direction.

Among other positive aspects in relations between Belarus and Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite noted that the Belarusian side had given the head of Vilnius mounted police, Laimonas Bankauskas — recently detained at the border checkpoint of Belarus with drugs — back to Lithuania. «There has been already announced an internal investigation to be realized by Police Department itself», «Lithuanian courier» quotes Dalia Grybauskaite.

«Our relations with Belarus are developing really fast, in good direction, especially business relations. Our so-called economic entities actually find better and favourable environment for business development in Belarus», Dalia Grybauskaite noted.

«I would like to have objectively good relations with all neighbors, as far as it is possible, understanding without any naivety the situation and its complexity, historical experience after all», the president of Lithuania added.

As Telegraf previously reported, Lithuanian authorities accuse General Vladimir Uskhopchika of giving orders to shoot at demonstrators in Vilnius in early 1990’s. Recent charges against him were changed so that the period of limitation is not applied to the case.

On June 23, Prosecutor General of Belarus, Grigory Vasilevich, informed that General Prosecutor’s Office did not intend to extradite General Vladimir Uskhopchik to Lithuania because under the Constitution Belarus could not extradite its citizens to other states.
