Members of the House of Representatives of Belarus ratified the intergovernmental agreement with Poland on the rules of cross-border movement at the meeting on November 11. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valeri Voronetski. The Belarusian side hopes to proceed with the contract in early 2011.

According to Telegraf, under the contract the right to simplified border crossing will be given to residents of settlements, located in the 30-kilometer zone. Also, if part of the settlement is between 30 and 50-km from the border, this town is recognized as a part of the border area.

The agreement is applied to residents of border areas who’ve been living there for at least three years. Under the terms of the contract, citizens must obtain a €20 special permission to cross-border movement and provide the identity proof to simplify the border crossing. Permits are issued for a period of two to five years and give the right to stay in the territory of another State p to 90 days within six months.

Belarus has signed similar treaties with Latvia and Lithuania.
