Human Rights Activists Arrested in Minsk for the Action Near Lukashenko's Administration

Human rights activists, Ales Byalatski, Valyantsin Stefanovich, Iryna Tolstsik and journalist, Syarhei Sys, were detained during the protest action at the Administration of the President of Belarus. Human rights activists held a picket against the use of death penalty in Belarus. The activists were dressed in special T-shirts with images of blood stains, and spread out a banner which said "No death penalty!" . 

All human rights defenders and the journalist were taken to Leninsky district police department of Minsk. «The arrest was made by at least six police officers and security guards of Lukashenko’s administration. The banner was immediately pulled out and took from the hands of the picketers. The protocols in respect of human rights defenders are being made at the police department. Perhaps, under the article -«violation of the rules of mass events», noted Ales Byalyatsky, informs the press center of «Charter-97».

«We strongly oppose the death penalty. We wanted to say that it was impossible to execute two more people, if there is a call of the international community to impose a moratorium and the UN’s call to stop executions until this question is being discussed. But authorities are cynically violated all the agreements «, said vice-president of the International Federation of Human Rights.
