I Wouldn't Shake Lukashenko's Hand in Vilnius, Shushkevich Says

Ex-chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich said he received an invitation to  celebration of the 20th anniversary of independence of  Lithuania, just as Alexander Lukashenko. " This is a right of Lithuanian President , she decided to invite Belarusian leader. But in Vilnius, I would have no desire to talk to him and I would never hand him, "- said politician.

«Former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus would not invite Belarusian President to celebrate the restoration of Lithuania, — says Stanislav Shushkevich. — But now other times commed, other EU policy towards Belarusian authorities takes place. Let’s see what it will cause. «

According to the leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada, an invitation to Alexander Lukashenko may be caused by intention to relations development between Lithuania and neighboring countries. «However, I find it hard to say, living in Minsk, how  the development of these relations is estimated in Vilnius», — Euramost.org quotes the politician.

«At home, in Belarus, I see that changes in the field of human rights, democratization, rule of law and reducuction of repressions are almost not visible. I see only negative side. But, if one believes assurances of neo-communist, it is his own right, «- said Stanislav Shushkevich.

The politician also said that apart from him three other deputies of the Belarusian Supreme Soviet of the 12th convocation were invited to the event in Lithuania   — Anatoly Vertinsky, Gennady Grushevsky and Leontiy Zdanevich. «I appreciate such invitations, because I think that this is to some extent a manifestation of solidarity with us- those who opposed Belarusian regime, «- said Stanislav Shushkevich.

Ex-chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus also said that on the eve of a trip to Vilnius he will go to Warsaw on invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, there he will discuss the situation in Belarus. «There will be quite large group of Belarusian democratically oriented politicians. In my view, Europe doesn’t quite understand what we have actually going on. Or doesn’t want to understand «- summarized Stanislav Shushkevich.

As previously reported by Telegraf, Lukashenko declined invitation  from  Dali Grybauskaite to take part in celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuanian independence. Head of State said that the delegation of Belarus will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Victor Buria.
