The mission of the International Monetary Fund starts its work in Minsk on January 25 and will last until February 2. The aim is to adjust the macroeconomic forecast for Belarus subject to the CES agreements and the oil price, told the IMF representative in Minsk.

Furthermore, as Telegraf previously reported, the mission will assess the impact of new agreements on the economy of Belarus in 2011, as well as in the medium term, and will continue to consult with officials on the economic policies and structural reforms.

IMF experts worked last in Minsk on November 3-16, 2010 within the annual consultations and review of the Belarusian economic policy. According to the results of the last mission, the IMF stated to remain concerned over the external vulnerability of the Belarusian economy.

The experts noted that Belarus was recovering from the global economic crisis, however, there remained serious vulnerabilities. «The first priority is to reduce the current account deficit,» said the IMF experts.
