President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko says that if Belarus wishes to remain a sovereign state, it must get rid of the fuel dependence, including from Russia. "It's very expensive, but I've told you before, that the independence and sovereignty are very expensive", the President stressed.

«We need to put our arteries, but get away from depending on oil if we want to be a state», the Belarusian leader said. According to Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus needs to seek alternative sources of fuel supply, AFN informs.

The President noted that this alternative is oil from Venezuela. «We found ways for cheap oil and gas supplies to Belarus. And at the same time the well-known external leverages appeared», Alexander Lukashenko said. According to the President, «everyone, who does not want this alternative, hamper» these supplies.

«There are empty pipes, they do not work, but they are blocked to supply hydrocarbons. You know who owns the existing gas and oil artery of the former Soviet Union», the Belarusian leader added.
