Independence of Belarus Determines Stability in Europe, Lellouche

The Secretary of State for European Affairs  of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France Pierre Lellouche during a meeting in Minsk with the First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko declared that Paris made the strategic decision on cooperation with Minsk. "For us it is very important, so that Belarus could remain the independent country, it is important to maintain stability on the European continent", the diplomat said.

Pierre Lellouche noticed that he is the first member of the government of France, who arrived to Belarus after the country became independent. «I really feel some responsibility and importance of the moment in which my visit takes place «, the member of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, BelTA informs.

Pierre Lellouche also emphasized, that «France wishes to see Belarus in Europe since considers Belarus to be the member of the European family». «Cooperation with Belarus is necessary in connection with financial and economic crisis, and in interests of both countries to work together to overcome it as well», the diplomat declared.

The Secretary of State for European Affairs  of France also paid attention that in Belarus «very hardworking and well-educated people live». «The favourable geographical position of the country is also important. I am assured that if we connect it together we will be able to improve wealth and prosperity of our countries, bigger stability in Europe and development of the general political values», Pierre Lellouche said.

The Secretary of State for European Affairs  mentioned, that the French delegation, which arrived in Belarus, includes members of parliament. In May the French party plans to receive group of the Belarusian members of parliament. Belarusian minister of culture is to come in France in near future.

The beginning of work of the «Eastern Partnership» is dragged, Semashko

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko noticed in his turn that France during its presidency in the European Union in second half of 2008 made the considerable contribution to adjust the dialogue between Belarus and EU.

«Unfortunately, we understand that there is a certain bureaucracy everywhere», the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. He said: «Concerning the real beginning of the project «Eastern Partnership» work, it seems to be dragged. But we hope that all points of order, all regulations can be co-ordinated not later than the first half of this year. And then we will start realisation of certain projects, mainly infrastructural, which will be profitable for Belarus and the European Union».

Vladimir Semashko said, that this cooperation is important for Belarus, since «EU is the main partner for Belarus according Belarusian goods turnover and export». «We sincerely want to improve our relations with EU. And today we ask France to assist us to make these relations more pragmatic», the First Deputy Prime Minister said.
