Inflation in Belarus Amounted to 2.3% since Early February

The inflation rate in Belarus amounted to 1.7% in the second week of February, while since the beginning of the month — 2.3%. Prices of sugar (9.9%), buckwheat (9.5%), potatoes (5.6%), vegetables (3.2%), beef and cheese (3%), salted herring (2.7%) and pork (2.6%) have grown most of all. This is stated in the report of the National Statistical Committee.

However, payments for utility services have increased by 18.2% (payment for electricity — by 12%, cold-water supply and sanitation — by 14.6%, gas — by 83.7%), higher education services — 4.1%.

As Telegraf previously reported, Belarus ranked first in Europe in inflation rate for 2010. The most notable increase in consumer prices was observed in Belarus (9.9%), Ukraine (9.1%) and Romania (7.9%) compared with December 2009. While the average consumer prices’ rise amounted to 2.6% for the European Union countries.
