Inflation in Belarus Reached 25.4% since Early Year

According to the National Statistics Committee, consumer prices of goods and services have increased by 25.4% in Belarus since early year. Only in May, inflation reached 13.1%. Meanwhile, the forecast inflation rate, as approved by the Government in late 2010, amounted to 7.5-8.5%.

Fruit (by 50.8%) and tea (46.2%) rose in price most significantly in May compared to April. The price of sugar (39.1%), canned fish (29.7%), fish and seafood (27.8%), pasta (26.9%) and cereals (26.2%) went up significantly as well.

Detergents have become most expansive among nonfoods in May — 50.8% increase. Jewelry rose by 33.4%, household electrical appliances — by 31.6%, perfumes and cosmetics — by 33.3%, construction materials — by 23.3%. In general, the price index for industrial goods amounted to 120.4% in May compared to April (prices rose by 31.7% from the beginning of the year).

Producer prices of industrial products increased in May as well. They rose by 9% against April, investment goods in this category — by 10.3%, intermediate and consumer goods — by 9%.

The index of prices and tariffs for paid services amounted to 103% in May against the previous month. Since the beginning of the year the prices for paid services have risen by 115.1%. Most significant increase was registered in tourist services — by 64.8% and air travels — by 57.8%.
