At a press conference in Minsk on June 23, Kurmanbek Bakiyev stated that Kyrgyzstan's interim government is unable to stop inter-ethnic conflict. "I think that first of all, the fate of the conflict depends on the will of the two fraternal peoples — Kyrgyz and Uzbek. The interim government is unable to work effectively and to stop the conflict", he said.

Kurmanbek Bakiyev noted that the situation in the country remains very tense. According to him, nobody can say with at least approximate accuracy the number of the dead, the number of refugees is estimated in tens of thousands. «But I hope that wisdom will prevail and both peoples will find the strength to stop this confrontation», he said. He also declared that a lot depends on local authorities and leaders of national diasporas, BelTA informs.

Kyrgyz President refused to answer the question of his brothers’ whereabouts. As Kurmanbek Bakiyev stated, they may have problems with personal security. «As of my son, Maxim, then I have recently talked on the phone with him. Now he is in the UK and seeks political asylum according all norms of international law», the president said.
