KGB Discovers New Evidences of Investigator Baikova's Guilt

On June 24, Prosecutor General of Belarus, Grigory Vasilevich, extended for two months more the detention of the investigator for particularly important cases of the General Prosecutor's Office, Svetlana Baikova. According to General Prosecutor's office, it caused by the submission of new evidence in her case by KGB.

In particular, in June 2010, KGB submitted new evidences of unjustified detention, indictment, arrest of citizens, admitted by Svetlana Baikova in 2006-2007.

In General Prosecutor’s Office recalled that the criminal case against the investigator was initiated on February 24, 2010. She is accused of committing crimes under articles 399, 426 of the Criminal Code of the republic of Belarus. KGB chairman applied measure of restriction to the detainees in form of custody.

In the absence of sufficient evidences of the charges, on April 23, Prosecutor General refused to extend the term of Svetlana Baikova’s custody, however, the term of the preliminary investigation on criminal cases was extended to August 24, 2010. It is expected to finish the preliminary investigation on criminal case against the investigator in this period.

Nobody can break me down, Baikova

Meanwhile, Svetlana Baikova transmitted a letter to Narodnaya Volya newspaper, in which she stated that her appeal to Belarusian president to release her was not to change anything in her life and that, despite this, she was not going to surrender.

«I do not have great confidence in that my appeal to the head of state can change anything. Though, there is still a small hope that measure of restraint to be changed. From this place I can not write why I found myself in jail. And in general, I can only guess about that. All my life I have worked faithfully and honestly in the prosecutor’s office and have never looked for easy ways out, so now I am bitterly hurt by the fact that they acted this way with me», the investigator noted.

«Of course, for the time I have spent in detention center, I have lost my faith in justice, but, despite everything, I’m not going to change my life principles. Nobody can break me down», Svetlana Baikova stated.
